Remembrance by Familiarity: An Exploration of our Environment and the Lens(s) of Which We Experience the World

Senior Capstone Concept

This woven collection explores Place, Identity, and Environment and how they affect your lens of viewing the world. This work is a carefully articulated woven collection of upholstery fabric, soft goods, scarves, and installation pieces that emanate this visual representation of my experience living in both California to Georgia. I will focus on the similarities and differences across both culturally and visually different landscapes.

My process involves portraying these concepts using photographs and collage as a tool to investigate the colors, landscape and certain elements and motifs that relate and have significance. This preliminary work will transform into various samples, woven yardage, and products all pertaining to the concept of the impacts of Place, Identity, and Environment.

Remembrance by Familiarity: An Exploration of our Environment and the Lens(s) of Which We Experience the World” is a woven collection of upholstery and other durable textiles using both floor looms and AVL Dobby looms. Through my practice I explore the potential for woven textiles to document place, perspective, and memory through utilitarian cloth and fine art pieces.
